日本の皇室はイタリア語を学ぶまではロイヤルファミリーだと普通に思っていた。
しかし英語のroyalはイタリア語で言うとregale 、つまり皇（emperor)に対応する言葉ではなく、王(king)に対応する言葉である。英語ではroyalがラテン語から、kingが古英語からきているために関係がわかりにくくなっている。
天皇がking かemperorかと言う議論はさておき、実際のところ英語ではemperor,イタリア語ではimperatore日本語では王室ではなく皇室と呼ぶ以上、皇室はインペリアルファミリーと呼ぶべきであろう。
